Organisers of the Shell Helix Ultra Cup have announced a revised date of 12 October for this year’s fixture.
It will see Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns go head-to-head for bragging rights at FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, with kick-off scheduled for 16h00.
The announcement also launched the creative TVCs for the campaign, which can be accessed at shuc.co.za.
“Soccer is the most popular game in the country and is a sport that has become a unifier in South Africa. Shell believes that in rivalry there is solidarity, even though there will be only ONE…through sports we are ONE,” said Shell Downstream South Africa General Manager for lubricants, Anton Niemann.
Shell has joined forces with event rights holders, Stadium Management South Africa, to bring this game to football fanatics across Gauteng.
“We are excited to be part of this prestigious tournament for a second year,” said Niemann. “We want to ensure the fans have the best experience possible and will be launching some exciting surprises for them. Shell’s products are synonymous with high quality and excellence and this event will be no different.”
“The Shell Helix Ultra Cup is a showcase of one of the best rivalries that South African football has to offer – the never-ending battle between Amakhosi and Masandawana,” said SMSA Tournament Chairman, Jacques Grobbelaar. “The concept to create a new annual fixture is not only an exciting idea, it also offers soccer fans another opportunity to see the best talent in South Africa on the FNB Stadium pitch, battling for the bragging rights to lift this trophy. Partnering with the Shell Helix Ultra team, as leaders in their industry, will ensure we bring an “Ultra” experience to the soccer fans who love these teams.”
