PSL Prosecutor Provides Sirino Update

23 Jan 2020

Months after he was charged with two counts of assault, Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino is closer to finally learning his fate.

The Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee hauled the Uruguayan over the coals for misconduct after he struck SuperSport United players Clayton Daniels and Dean Furman when the two sides faced off in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final fixture as far back as 18 September last year.

Sirino, who has since pleaded not guilty, was only shown a yellow card by referee Eugen Mdluli, but the disciplinary committee subsequently brought charges of assault against Sirino and the player could spend time on the sidelines.

A ruling was expected before the Christmas break, but PSL prosecutor Nande Becker told Soccer Laduma that the festive period is in fact what delayed the outcome, and that progress on the case was expected soon.
