Hollard throws its weight behind the Sport Industry Awards

South Africa’s largest privately-owned insurance group, Hollard Insurance, has been announced as the 2019 headline sponsor of the Sport Industry Awards.

 

Now in its 9th year, the Awards celebrate the passion and creativity behind some of the country’s most iconic sporting events. Bringing together a host of brands, agencies, product sponsors, broadcasters, rights holders and sporting celebrities, the event showcases the year’s most outstanding work in the areas of marketing, sponsorship, live events, brand building, community investment, social media and digital execution.

Established in 1980, the Hollard group provides short-term and life insurance as well as investment products to a diverse customer base, including individual consumers, commercial entities and corporate clients. 

According to Nikki Belford, Head of Sponsorships at Hollard, the organisation’s primary purpose is to enable more people to create and secure a better future for themselves – and it recognises the ability of sport to contribute towards these improved futures.

 

“Sport has a unique ability to break down barriers and to build and sustain communities,” explains Belford. “Our decision to sponsor the Sport Industry Awards stems from our desire to celebrate the role played by companies and individuals involved in the greater sports industry, thereby ensuring that we have a viable sport sector. Added to this, we also should not ignore the ability of the industry to create employment, both through the supply chain and direct participation.” 

 

This is the first time that Hollard has thrown its weight behind the event. “We were certainly familiar with the Sport Industry Awards, but have never participated in them before,” says Belford. “We are excited by the opportunity to salute the hundreds of people and organisations that are making a difference, to individuals, communities and the country, through sport.”

 

Hollard is an active supporter of the local sports industry, having sponsored various events since the mid 1980’s. Currently, the company is in its 6th year of sponsorship of the Hollard Jozi Urban Mountain Bike Adventure (JUMA), as well as the Hollard Jozi Urban Run Adventure (JURA).

 

“These two events are unique in their own right – an important criteria for us - and together constitute both a great family weekend out in Johannesburg as well as a celebration of the city’s green and gritty urban spaces,” states Belford. “Most importantly for us though, is the fact that both of these events contribute to the upkeep of Jozi’s green spaces and ultimately to the greater Johannesburg community, and allows us to demonstrate the power of good corporate citizenship.”
