Kenyan marathon runner Eliud Kipchoge has been named as a brand ambassador in East Africa for Japanese automobile manufacturer Isuzu.
The one-year endorsement deal will see the 2016 Olympic champion promote the brand in the region through a series of marketing campaigns. The 32-year-old will also be given an Isuzu Dmax Double Cab for his training and personal use. Additionally, the carmaker is offering Kipchoge the incentive of an Isuzu Luxury Double Cab as a reward if he breaks the world record at the Berlin Marathon on 24th September.
The partnership sees the company cement its presence in Kenya, adding to its existing agreement with Kenya Rugby Union to provide transport for all of the governing body’s national teams.
Commenting on the deal, Kipchoge said: “I look forward to growing the Isuzu brand. We are truly together on this journey. This is a mutual venture where these companies also benefit by using us as their ambassadors. We sell our inspiring stories more through this.”
Charles Kariuki, chief financial officer for Isuzu East Africa, added: “Building strong relationships is at the very heart of our success as Isuzu EA. Through this partnership, we will be drawing from Kipchoge’s success to further boost our Isuzu brand visibility, drive sales and support him in his journey of success. The partnership with Kipchoge is yet another initiative by Isuzu EA to support the growth of sporting talent in the country.”
