IOC backs Paris & LA Olympic bids

12 Jul 2017

The host cities for the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games look to be decided after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) unanimously voted to support a plan to name hosts for successive Games, with just Paris and Los Angeles bidding.

The IOC now wants the cities to reach an agreement on who hosts which edition by the IOC Session in Peru on 13th September, with IOC president Thomas Bach hopeful of an agreement by next month.

If there is no agreement, a vote to select just the 2024 host will be held.
Earlier this month, an IOC evaluation commission report praised both bids, claiming either city would be “more than capable” of hosting an outstanding Olympic Games.

According to media reports, Paris is believed to be the favourite to land 2024, the centenary of the last time it hosted the Olympics, going into the three-way talks. The French capital has already said it has to go first , given that the site earmarked for the Olympic Village will not be available for redevelopment after 2024.
