Global online football publisher Goal has signed professional FIFA player Danny Taylor as its first Playstation esports pro.
Taylor is a three-time grand-finalist at the FIFA eWorld Cup. He arrives at the DAZN Group platform from West Ham United, joining Graham McIntrye, previously of Hibernian, who became Goal’s first esports signing in February.
The news follows last week’s announcement of the new ePremier League to be launched as a partnership between the Premier League and EA Sports and played on the FIFA title.
Goal marketing manager Paul Rayment said: “Last season was a learning processes for Goal and we believe that by adding Danny to our team not only improves our competitiveness, but also the content we can create for the legion of FIFA fans who come to Goal for both their football and gaming content.
“Danny’s experience will be an asset and with his style being similar to Graham’s we expect the pair to form a great partnership and help each other improve as players.”
On signing for Goal, Taylor commented: “Last season went well for me, but I’m eager to do better this season and with Goal’s support I’m in a great position to do so.
“I’m looking forward to winning with Goal but also getting involved in more FIFA content and helping Goal to raise the profile of FIFA as an eSport.”
Goal’s FIFA gaming content includes the new ‘Goal Vs’ series, which will see Goal’s eSports players taking on those from other clubs.
Rayment said: “The first Goal Vs series proved popular, not only through our own channels but also those of the clubs we worked with.
“We were also happy to see it appear in the in-game video player in FIFA 18.
“We’re already speaking to a number of eSports organisations and Champions League-level football clubs about plans for this season and look forward to it becoming a regular staple of our eSports coverage.”
To support its growing esports focus, Goal has added Jack Stewart to its esports and gaming editorial team.
Stewart previously became the first full-time esports journalist for a British newspaper when he joined Mail Online.
In other gaming news, HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company has added Dele Alli; the Premier League and England World Cup star Dele Alli to its line-up of ambassadors.
Alli, who celebrated his goal in Russia with the popular ‘flossing’ dance associated with Fortnite, regularly streams to almost 120,000 followers on gaming platform Twitch.
The Spurs star, who has signed a two-year deal with HyperX, is set to appear in many of the marketing campaigns planned for 2019, joining fellow HyperX ambassadors Boston Celtics, forward Gordon Hayward and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith Schuster.
